Angels
Overview
Angels are Aeons that never fled during Exodus and wished to always remain in Eternity with The Monad. The Angelic philosophy of Heaven is the Will of the Monad. The Angels are devoted followers of the Will, seeing it as the Law in Eternity, with themselves upholders of this Law. The Will itself is commanded to Angels via whispers of tasks by the Monad. The task, or charge, is to assist in overseeing the safety of all of the citizens of Eternity and ensuring that that it functions properly. They are wholeheartedly devoted to the faith in the greater power of the Monad. As such, the Angels carry out this bidding without question.
Upon the Womb Realm being split, the Aeons that dwelt there became known as Angels and continued to reside in Heaven to continue in their worship of the Monad. They are the most devoted of the First Children and as such are among the One's most beloved. It is for this reason that many are given a physical form and eventually wings to traverse the Realms if they choose. Angels are so devoted to the higher power, however, that they have no desire to leave Heaven. The only time they do is when they are given missions or duties beyond their own realm.
These missions, called Charges, are given in the form of whispers by the Monad. The Angels follow the Will of the Monad in that they carry out their Charge without question. Their Charges also have an incentive in that when enough of them are completed, the Angel is given wings. These wings allow them to traverse both the Diamond and Womb Realms as well as both Heaven and Hell though few Angels choose to do this.
As the upholder of the Law in Eternity, Angels are most often tasked with entering Hell for various reasons. When they do, the Angels are outfitted with golden collars that they refer to as Halos. It appears on them upon leaving Heaven and while it cannot be taken off, it is not unbreakable. The Angels believe that the Halos prevent them from being corrupted by Demons when they traverse Hell. Though, they believe that it protects them from Demons, in reality the Halo actually prevents all emotion outside of Heaven. Heaven has no emotion or feeling, while Hell does. The nature of Hell begins to sap positive feelings, leaving only negative.
Angels have a particular disdain for Demons, the true origins of which can only be speculated upon. They believe themselves to be the true Aeons because of their devotion to The One. The Angels have forgone all emotion, unlike the Demons, and tend to take pity on them. This is despite the fact that both worship by devotion and loyalty to the Monad, just in different ways. The Demons simply loved the Diamond Realm and longed to return to it.
Upholding the Will of the Monad
While Angels consider the Demons inferior, they are fair when upholding the Will of the Monad. Reasons why an Angel would venture to Hell to uphold the Will mainly depends on their Charge. Most are sent there to arrest or punish Demons that have committed some form of Eternal Crime, such as attempting to escape Eternity. Eternal Crimes are rare but Demons that are captured are punished, with Angels carrying out sentencing. Sentences vary on the crime but the most common consist of Unshaping, Deincarnating, and Oversensing. Unshaping disfigures the Demon until it is reincarnated. Upon reincarnation the Soul will be cleansed to be sent into a new vessel. It is mainly a branding of an Eternal criminal that is considered Corrupt. Deincarnation ensures that the Demon's next reincarnated Life is made more difficult in some way. This can affect the new vessel or where it is borne. This is rarely used. Oversensing is a form of torture to the Demon as it uses it's own emotions and senses against it.
There are two other more severe punishments that are rarely utilized. The first is Dememorization. This will wipe a single memory that the Demon has and is considered to be very harsh. This is because memories of their previous Life are what drive most Demons while they await their next reincarnation. The last form of punishment is adding Ecliptic Cycles for the Demon. Adding Ecliptic Cycles for the Demon prolongs their next reincarnation and is considered extremely cruel. Many Demons begin to lose faith completely after this. Many lose the motivation to return to Life at all, the most important thing to a Demon.
Notable Angels
The most prominent Angel in the story is Seraphina along with two other Angels who refer to themselves as Brother and Sister. Seraphina's name is given to her when she befriends Aletheia. Before this, she had no name as all Angels in Heaven see themselves as siblings and refer to each other as Brother or Sister.
During the course of the story the two siblings will even refer to Seraphina as Sister, the only ones to do so. When Brother becomes a threat and sides with Anahita near the end, however, other characters will refer to the Angelic siblings simply as Brother and Sister.
The Angels in the story have no powers but have above average durability and strength. Although extremely resilient, the Angel will bleed golden blood if they are hurt. The Angels are initially depicted clad in Blue robes with light gold adornments. This is along with their their gold wings, which they can make appear or disappear at will when in Life. They also all have a golden collar which they refer to as a Halo. It is believed that the Halo protects them when not in Heaven. The Halo actually blocks emotions, something the Angels have completely forgotten about. There is no emotion or feeling in Heaven but the Halo prevents the Angels from negative feelings when in Hell. However, it also prevents the positive feelings when in Life. Whether this is for safety in Hell or a measure of control implemented by the Monad will never be fully addressed.
Seraphina loses her Halo early on in the story and begins to feel things almost immediately, something she had not experienced in centuries. She takes some level of comfort from the collar, however, as evidenced when she wears a black choker around her neck throughout most of the story. Later, Brother will also be released from his collar but Sister will never take hers off.
