BEFORE LAST HORIZON

Over the next month, Malkum witnesses Donofrey assemble his forces to attack Selene. He watches as soldiers investigating the Ruined Keep are ambushed by the Jester's men. Skirmishes and battles result in the soldiers of Selene being pushed back to a final battle in the Nightfall Fields just east of Selene. This battle became known as the Battle of Nightfall. Soldiers retreated to the fortified city of Selene where Donofrey laid siege to the city by the morning. Malkum witnessed Donofrey's defeat by John Noble and his friends. He saw as John Noble was made the Noble Guardian of Selene and realized what the Soothsayer meant. Malkum flew east.

He lived as a raven for several years but his body was old when he assumed that form and needed a fresh body. A blank slate. Some time after he attacked a young woman after watching her intently. After touching her as a raven, he took her form and murdered the girl, taking her place. She was a healthy and athletic woman and Malkum enjoyed her new found vitality. She was also a person of influence to an Older Eastern Prefect and Malkum adopted her duties as an adviser and subordinate to him, carrying out a variety of duties which allowed her to stay informed. The man would always forget her name so he continued to go by Malkum. She eventually hears of word of Anahita's return and seeks her out after murdering the Prefect.

Malkum finds Anahita as they arrive in Meridian and requests to join her regime. Anahita is at first skeptical but Malkum claims that she knows the weakness of the High Champion of Meridian. Anahita's forces attack Meridian. The city defends against the attack but the High Champion of Meridian is defeated. He is known as the Meridiann Bolt and possessed the power of Shift. He alone was able to defeat much of her forces but was defeated thanks to information provided by Malcolm. She had revealed to Anahita the High Champions weakness and the soldiers were able to take advantage of this and subdue him. Malcolm was true to her word. Anahita then takes the power of Shift for herself. She now has two of the Seven Divine Powers and is that much closer to becoming the Sealing Maiden.

After the city was taken, Malkum informs Anahita that the High Champion of Meridian was part of the Champion Coalition. This High Champion, named William Fendrel, was part of an Alliance that John Noble and his group of Ecliptics had spent the last decade establishing. They intended to promote peace within the Four Kingdoms of the West. She claims that word will soon reach Veiland and the Ecliptics will come to restore order and reinstitute the rightful King. They are a very effective and tactical group that have studied Champions for nearly a decade. Their leader, John Noble, even defeated an Invincible Man.
